October 13, 2025: Macedonian Struggle Remembrance Day

Today, October 13, we honor the Macedonian Struggle Remembrance Day, a day dedicated to the heroes who with faith, courage and selflessness defended Macedonia and its sacred bond with the national core. From the late 19th century until the liberation of Macedonia in 1912, the Macedonian fighters, men and women, known and anonymous, soldiers and citizens, fought a fierce and multifaceted struggle against all forms of oppression, keeping the flame of freedom and Greek consciousness unextinguished.

The Museum of Yessios – The Macedonian Struggle and Edessa honors their sacrifice and keeps their memory alive by preserving documents, relics and testimonies of a struggle that defined the history of our country. Today is not only an opportunity for honor and reflection, but also a reminder of our duty to continue to preserve the values, ideals and historical truth that they defended. Their sacrifice is a beacon of inspiration for future generations.

On this day, 121 years ago, Pavlos Melas breathed his last in Macedonia, fighting for its freedom. His sacrifice became the symbol of an entire Struggle and his name was written in golden letters in history, as a beacon of honor and self-denial. A memory not only of a hero, but also of an era that shaped modern Greek identity.
