Christos I. Yesios was born in Edessa in 1938 and grew up in Thessaloniki from the age of 5. He went to high school at Anatolia College and received degrees in Law (1962) and Architecture (1967) from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
During his student years he also worked in painting, decoration and theatre, as an actor and set designer. In 1968 he went to the USA as a postgraduate student and became a citizen in 1979. He has been married to Alexandra Varsami Yesiou since 1971 and they have 4 children: Ioannis, Aikaterini, Dorothea and Christina.
- In 1973 he was awarded a PhD degree with a specialization in Computer Aided Design (CAD) from the University of
Carnegie-Mellon, USA. - In 1973 he was appointed Professor of Computer Aided Design at Ohio State University where he taught and researched until 1995.
- In 1990, with David Kropp, a former graduate student, he founded AutoDesSys, Inc., a company that produces 3D modeling software, such as form.Z, which has users worldwide and has been emulated by many other software programs in the CAD area. He was the CEO and President of AutoDesSys since its founding. He retired from the company in 2015.
During his tenure, he wrote and published more than 100 research papers and book chapters and conducted several million dollars worth of research that led to a number of prototype systems. CAD και 3D Modeling. His list of sponsors includes: IBM, the DEC and the US National Science Foundation (NSF).
He has received a number of awards, including the Creative Achievement Award by the Association of Schools of Architecture (1995), the Excellence Award by the Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture (1998), the Professional Achievement Award by the Architectural Society of Ohio (1990) and the Joe Greco Award by the CAD Society (2006). In addition, form.Z has received some thirty awards.
