The Macedonian Warrior's Uniform
The Macedonian warrior's uniform was not uniform or formal.
During the Macedonian Struggle (1904–1908), the fighters operated mainly in small armed groups, in difficult areas, under extreme secrecy. It was a secret war, a guerrilla war.
Their costumes consisted of whatever they could find from a village in Macedonia:
– Casual pants with boots or leggings thatthe local tsaruhades make
– Black tassel loafers
– White or black skirt
– Leather belt to support a knife or pistol
– Goat hair capes for protection from cold and rain
They carried the absolute necessary.
The weight of the rigging was already heavy due to the weapons and bullets.
Later, the "Macedonian Doulamas", a dark blue-black garment, was established as the official costume of the Macedonian fighters, which has remained in the collective memory through the last photograph of Pavlos Melas.
